Today we are introducing the GRT Evolutions Agoge!
This is an important part of the GRT Evolutions community in that this is where training for everyday life, and SHTF scenarios will be presented.
The foundation of this training will come by way of our daily WOD. Each WOD will include a W/U, a training session, some basic combatives work, and will finish up with some mobility to keep us all supple, and injury free.
In addition, how to posts will be placed here. These will focus on how to defend yourself, blend into a crowd, fire a rifle/pistol, make a weapon of opportunity, and a multitude of other topics that are important to a modern day warrior.
If you have something you would like posted, or an idea for a WOD please e-mail agoge@grtevolutions.com with your ideas. Community is the heart and soul of everything GRT, and everything Veteran which we are also big fans of!
Monday will be the first WOD, we are playing around with names of the various levels, so bear with us, and submit recommendations.
The levels are currently:
- Bodyweight
- Spartiate/Beginner
- Spartiates were the baseline of the Spartan Army. Spartiates were the Spartan men who would from birth train to be in the military.
- Ephor/Intermediate
- Ephors were elected from the Army assembly (comprised of Spartiates) to become magistrates.
- Krypteia/Advanced
- From the Spartiates came the Krypteia, which were a type of elite, secret police force.
I found these levels, and the information about them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spartiate
Let us know what you think.

No perioikoi level for those of us not training for selection?
Seriously, remember that the krypteia was a time where young Spartiates were encouraged to slay the perioikoi and the indentured helots in order to keep them in line. It was institutionalized slavery & murder of unarmed serfs.
The Ephors engaged in pederasty with young boys.
Spartan culture is not entirely something to aspire to.

Thanks for the insight Daniel.
There is a lesson I learned early in my career, “Never complain about a problem, if you do not have a solution”
What is your recommendation Daniel?
Bryan says
I’m not Daniel but I say take the parts you want to aspire to and drop the parts you don’t. Plenty to admire in that culture in my opinion. No reason to throw out all the good because of some bad.
